Wooden spoon 2013 ?

The Ireland vs. France game is this weekend. Kick off at the Aviva Stadium is at 17:00 (Irish time, it will be shown on RTE2 & BBC). This one is considered to be the big one to avoid the wooden spoon this year and the further shame to Declan Kidney’s struggle to get results in the 6-nations. Ireland started out quite well in their campaign, beating Wales at away in Cardiff, but now after two defeats in a row Ireland need a win. The team has suffered some injuries with Simon Zebo & Johnny Sexton. The team is captains by Jamie Heaslip, and Brian O’Driscoll is back in the squad, and Paddy Jackson will be taking Ronan O’Gara’s place at out half.

A win and we’re clear of the embarrassment of the wooden spoon (the prize for the worst performing team at the 6 nations), and France will be well on target for it. If we lose, it goes down to the last round of games where we are scheduled to play Italy on the 16th of March at Stadio Olimpico. Italy are the other spoon contender. Some say it’s more it’s more exciting at the bottom than top right now !
