Top 10 Torrent websites 2016

We’ve been looking at some of the more popular torrent websites in 2015. We predict that these will be in a state of constant flux as torrent sites are shut down and more during the year. File-sharers tend to stick with one or two services for finding torrents, only changing when there is some shut down or some other type of issue with the website.

Quick primer :

BitTorrent is a filesharing protocol that is capable, in a reliable way, to enable big and fast file transfers. It’s a distributed system where parties can download pieces of large files from other users on the network. It can be used for large files (like movies, TV shows & software).

Downloaded TV-Shows in 2015

In 2015 the top pirated TV-Show was Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and The Big Bang Theory. Game of Thrones’  season finale had an estimated 14 million downloads for their season finale. More than 50% of TV-shows downloads happen within a week of airing.

In 2015 the number of high quality uploads has increased. Shows appear in 1080p & 720p more frequently, but 480p shows still account for a majority of the downloads. This is most likely due to pirates being on limited internet connections or having a high number of simultaneous downloads.
